Skyline

Skyline

I float among the giants that
make up the outline of a city.
Take in their differences--
colors, components, configurations.
Observe how they fit in with each other.
Watch them disappear into a fog
or sparkle in the sunshine.
Sit in their shadows.
Study their reflections.
Embrace my new point of view.

Aftereffect

Aftereffect

The crowds gathered on the fourth
to see the fireworks display
in honor of  Independence Day.

Two nights later, the
booms were out of place.
Colors filled the sky but
made us wonder why.
What did we have left to celebrate?

Geometric Abstraction

Geometric Abstraction

The sun paints with light.
The buildings are its canvas.
The works shimmer to catch
your attention then change
before your eyes.

I Left the Sun Behind

I Left the Sun Behind

I left the sun behind
to go into the clouds.

It was a bumpy ride,
murky on all sides.

The view before me blurred.
Still, I continued to rise.

Foggy

Foggy

The morning fog
is stealth.
It slips in while
the sun is asleep
and burns off as
the light increases.

The afternoon fog
is brazen.
It inserts itself
into the middle
of the day.
Obscures the views
then ambles away.

Soldiers of the City

Soldiers of the City

We stand in formation,
shoulder to shoulder,
always at attention.

We have become
routine to those
who pass by us
day in and day out.

It is the visitors
who crane their
necks to take
in our full height.

They render salutes
worthy of our place
in the skyline.
